Charmaine Limonius

Born in the garden parish of St. Ann, Charmaine began singing at an early age and eventually taught herself to play the guitar in order to accompany herself as she wrote her songs. She discovered her good ear and her talent for retaining lyrics to hundreds of songs when, as a migrant teen in New York pining for her island home, she found solace in listening to the radio and learning every song that she liked. She also owes her wide and varied repertoire to having grown up in a home where all types of music was played daily.

After university, Charmaine returned to Jamaica and taught Spanish in Savanna-la-Mar for two years. Thereafter, she joined the United Nations Secretariat, embarking on a career over the next decades took her to several countries where her experiences made an indelible mark on her life. While serving as a political affairs officer in El Salvador, she recorded her first CD, “Evening Time”, and in 2000, still working for the UN, but having returned once more to Jamaica, she recorded a second album, entitled “Sweet Jamaica”. She has also been invited to collaborate on recordings with other artists, among them, Fab 5 and Chalice. Although she resigned from the UN in 2008, Charmaine still freelances for her former office, and other organizations as an editor and/or translator and, as the General Manager of Alternative Music Ltd., she not only lives the music and crosses paths with the best personalities in the industry, but also has access to the company’s superb sound for her performances, as and when needed.

Charmaine can be seen and heard at a variety of venues across the island and occasionally performs abroad. She delights in entertaining at corporate and private events, where she can connect more directly with her audiences. She derives a special satisfaction from singing for children, the elderly and the infirm, all of which she considers a privilege and a way of giving thanks for the talent that she was blessed with.

Her third solo album, entitled “Me & My Guitar”, was released in 2016 and she is currently in the studio working on her next project, as yet untitled, but which promises to be an unparalleled treat.
